Ear candles are like a long tapered chimney and coated with beeswax which has been infused with propolis.  The wide end acts as a wick and is lit.  The small tapered end fits snugly into the ear.

Ear candling should not be used on people who have ear tubes, perforated eardrums, acute ear infections or artificial eardrums, or might be allergic to the ingredients.

For external use only.  Ear candles are a home remedy, not a medicator.  Use your own judgement as to how often to use them.
